Body Worn Video
When is body worn video used?
Body Worn Video (BWV) is cameras our people wear to capture both video and audio evidence when they attend all types of incidents. They are used to capture both video and audio evidence when our staff are involved in abusive/threatening situations and acts as an independent witness to any events, recording the whole situation.
The camera footage is stored on an internal device. At the end of a shift, the staff members footage is uploaded to a secure location where it can potentially be used as evidence at court or other legal proceedings or deleted if it isn’t used. Any footage not used will be deleted within 30 days.
Colleagues can chose to film in any situation, regardless of whether people are being abusive or not. This is for everyone’s protection and we encourage colleagues to record each and every incident as they wish.
You will know the camera is recording when it has red lights on – staff members do not have to get your consent to be filmed.
Only specific people have access to footage captured on the cameras. When staff dock their camera at the end of shift their footage is automatically uploaded to secure servers. Footage will only be kept as evidence.
