Richard Crompton appointed Chair of the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust
The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) has appointed Richard Crompton as the new Chair of the Trust.
Mr Crompton’s appointment was made by the Trust’s Council of Governors, following a robust recruitment process.
Richard has extensive leadership experience in the public sector having formerly held roles as Chief Constable with Lincolnshire Police, Chairman at the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, Non-Executive Director at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and as a Non-Executive Board Member at Dimensions UK, a not-for-profit national provider of services for autistic and learning-disabled adults, among other chair level roles.
John Martin, Chief Executive at SWASFT, said: “I would like to congratulate Richard on his appointment as Trust Chair, I am very much looking forward to working with him.
“We would also like to thank Interim Chair, Martin Holloway, for his dedication, guidance and support over the last few months.”

On his appointment, Richard Crompton, said: “I am delighted and proud to have been appointed Chair of the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.
“Our highly skilled staff and volunteers provide an essential service to over five and a half million people in the South West and are at the heart of our collective endeavour to strengthen health services for all communities and future generations.
“It is a great privilege to take up this position at such a time and to devote my efforts to the needs of the population we serve and to the wonderful colleagues who dedicate themselves to that great task.”
Martin Holloway will continue as Interim Chair until Richard joins the Trust, before returning to his substantive vital role as Senior Independent Director with the Trust.
