SWASFT LGBT network

Welcome to the SWAST LGBT+ Network!

Our purpose is to represent and support LGBT+ staff, volunteers and patients within SWAST. The committee members are dedicated to fostering a positive environment for all individuals by promoting inclusive care for LGBT+ communities in alignment with the Equality Act 2010, Equality Delivery System (EDS2), Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), and relevant health and social care legislation.

We aim to act as an independent voice for LGBT+ individuals within SWAST and establish the organisation as an employer of choice where LGBT+ staff feel empowered and have equal opportunities. Our network utilises the expertise both within and outside of SWAST in order to support equality and diversity initiatives, improving the organisational culture.

The role of the SWAST LGBT+ Network includes promoting the network within the ambulance service, supporting LGBT+ communities, influencing policy-making, holding SWAST accountable for LGBT+ issues, providing training and support on LGBT+ issues, arranging meetings and activities, and developing projects to enhance patient and staff experiences.

Membership is free and open to all SWAST staff and volunteers regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We actively encourage participation from all areas of SWAST. At its head, the network consists of a core committee, responsible for driving the network's initiatives and projects. Each member of the committee has innate knowledge within their specific role with the overall aim to support SWAST’s mission to improve culture within the organisation.
