Martin Holloway announced as South Western Ambulance Service’s Interim Chair

Martin Holloway, Senior Independent Director and Non-Executive Director of the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, has been appointed by the Council of Governors as the new Interim Trust Chair.

Mr Holloway, who is from Gloucestershire, has a wealth of experience, having joined the Board in January 2020. He is also a volunteer Community First Responder for the Trust.

Dr John Martin, Chief Executive of the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I would like to offer Martin my congratulations on his new position as our Interim Trust Chair.

“Martin’s experience mirrors the operational challenges faced by the Trust, such as having a workforce that operates across multiple sites.

“I very much look forward to continuing working closely with Martin as we strive to achieve our vision of delivering the best care when patients need us most.”

Martin Holloway, Interim Trust Chair of the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: “I’m delighted to take up the role of Interim Chair, at an exciting time for the Trust.  I look forward to working with the Board and Council of Governors until a substantive appointment is made.”

Martin is a senior leader with a focus on customer service. His experience is in large public and private sector organisations including Scotia Gas Networks, HomeServe, British Telecom, Openreach and Royal Mail.

Martin’s appointment follows the news last month that current Trust Chair, Stephen Otter, is stepping down to take up the unexpected opportunity of a position overseas. Stephen will remain with the Trust until the end of March as a robust handover takes place between him and Martin.

The recruitment for a substantive Trust Chair will begin in due course.
